Other Conditions: Part-time, for placement on lecturer candidate pool, contingent on availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. Day, evening, or Saturday offerings, on- and off- campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct courses in Hospitality and Tourism under general supervision.
- Maintain office hours of at least one hour per week for each course taught.
- Prepare course outlines and reports related to teaching and student progress.
- Integrate teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area under supervision of the division chairperson.
- Collect student and peer evaluations and complete a self-assessment of teaching effectiveness.
- Complete instructional assignments which may involve day, evening, early morning, weekend, outreach (such as Early College), and/or distance education classes.
- Adhere to Kaua`i CC’s mission, principles, and philosophy.
Minimum Qualifications
All degrees must be earned from an accredited institution. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.
- a) Master’s degree in hospitality, travel, or tourism, OR
- (b) Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) and two years of relevant work experience in the hospitality & tourism field of which at least one year must include industry work experience, OR
- (c) Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, travel, or tourism and three years of relevant work experience in the hospitality & tourism field of which at least two years must include industry work experience, OR
- (d) Bachelor’s degree in any field and five years of relevant work experience in the hospitality and tourism field of which at least three years must include industry work experience, OR
- (e) Associate’s degree in hospitality, travel, or tourism and five years of relevant work experience in the hospitality & tourism field of which at least three years must include industry work experience, OR
- (f) 15 college credits and seven years of relevant work experience in the hospitality & tourism field of which at least 5 years must include industry management or supervisory experience
Desirable Qualifications
- Successful community college teaching experience.
- Ability to use writing assignments and integrate teaching of appropriate thinking skills into course content as an integral part of students’ classroom learning activities.
- Relevant work experience within 5 years.
