The Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, grant tenure-track.The UBC Department of Surgery, which includes more than 700 physicians and scientists, has training programs at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and pursues research to make advancements in knowledge and practice to improve health. The successful applicant will join a collaborative clinical and research community in the area of burn and wound healing at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI).The BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn and Wound Healing Program, aims to integrate and synergize the expertise at VCHRI to accelerate meaningful solutions for current challenges in wound care. The BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn and Wound Healing Program has long-standing collaborations with clinicians in the Departments of Pathology, Dermatology and Surgery, as well as the Complex Wound Clinic at the Vancouver General Hospital, providing the program unique access to patient biospecimens in addition to invaluable clinical expertise.Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Surgery, the successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, nationally recognized research program, and to obtain external grant funding, both as an individual and in collaboration with others. They will be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the Department, as well as provide mentorship and training to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate learners.The successful candidate will hold an MD and/or PhD. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability in scholarly activity and demonstrated evidence of teaching. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own, and a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.Preference will be given to candidates who have training in burn and wound healing research, and a solid understanding of mechanisms pertaining to wound healing, scarring and fibrosis. Experience with in vitro and in vivo would healing models and translational research is also an asset.The expected salary range for this position is $125,000 to $130,000 per annum.
