National Grid is hiring a Data Center Hosting – Platform Owner. This position can be based form our London or Warwick office – with a hybrid working policy in place.
Job Purpose
As a Platform Owner, you will oversee on-premise data center hosting and be accountable for the end-to-end delivery and operation of your services. You will set the direction for design and development, including vision, strategic themes, and roadmaps, while maximizing value for customers through Business Value, OKRs, and KPIs.
You will ensure alignment with the strategy set by the Platform Lead, manage stakeholder relationships, drive innovation, and contribute to our vision of industry leadership by leveraging emerging technologies for growth and success.
What you’ll do
- Lead the service mission, roadmap, and backlog for on-premise data center hosting.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to track business priorities and address hosting-related pain points.
- Prioritize and manage a well-organized backlog to ensure timely task completion.
- Review demos, provide feedback, and guide adaptations focused on hosting requirements.
- Manage interactions with service providers to meet delivery targets and performance objectives.
- Assist the Product Owner in translating initiatives into actionable user stories for hosting.
- Ensure platform scalability, efficiency, and security by aligning with best practices.
- Monitor and analyze platform performance, addressing issues as needed.
- Partner with Chapter Leads to address resourcing and expertise requirements related to hosting.
- Manage the platform within budget, aligning with company priorities and regulatory commitments.
- Collaborate with teams to develop regulatory content aligned with hosting strategies.
- Communicate the vision and goals for each release and sprint, ensuring team alignment.
- Foster a collaborative team culture that promotes agile leadership and knowledge sharing.
- Engage with customers to gather feedback and understand hosting requirements.
- Build relationships with vendors and service providers to support hosting initiatives.
About you
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience; BS/BA in a technical field preferred.
- Over 10 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in people management with industry certifications.
- Strategic technology leadership experience in IT infrastructure, analytics, and outsourcing management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing in a matrix environment.
- Experience working with managed service providers for data center capabilities.
- Strong ability to guide IT financials and lead diverse teams across geographical boundaries.
- Familiarity with DCIM tools, VMware, and open-source tools like Terraform for data center operations.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk for real-time infrastructure visibility.
- Proven ability to develop trusted relationships with stakeholders to achieve business outcomes.
- Extensive understanding of data center infrastructure, including power, cooling, networking, and security protocols.
- Proficient in assessing data center capacity requirements and ensuring optimal resource utilization.
- In-depth knowledge of network architecture and virtualization platforms like VMware and Hyper-V.
- Understanding of physical and logical security measures and disaster recovery strategies.
- Knowledge of cloud technologies and their integration with data center operations.
- Strong skills in strategic planning, emerging technology monitoring, and solution architecture.
- Experience in stakeholder relationship management, people management, and financial risk management.
What you’ll get
A competitive salary between £70,000 – £95,000 – dependent on capability
As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 20% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, a salary sacrifice technology scheme, support via the employee assistance line and matched charity giving to name a few.
