Podman Desktop is a widely popular Open Source application running on developer workstation, Windows, macOs or Linux, allowing developers to easily manage containers, build, push and use images using Podman or Docker as the underlying container engine. It also has support for Kubernetes easing the transition toward managed container applications.

Podman AI Lab is an extension of Podman Desktop which provides an easy way to learn and experiment with Large Language Models for software developers. Podman Desktop and its plugins like the Podman AI Lab are cross platform, based on Electron, implemented on Javascript and typescript it is supported on Windows, macOs and Linux. The AI applications and the LLMs are run as Linux containers on a virtual machine, as a result the inherent complexity of the application requires a very consequent testing prior to releases.

The Podman Desktop team is looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join the team to expand the testing as we grow the scope of the AI Lab plugin in relation to the development of the InstructLab project to build an Open Source based AI Approach to train Granite LLM. 

The ideal candidate will be a highly collaborative person with a passion for delivering a flawless experience to a large audience, automating processes and working collaboratively with internal users, customers and the community at large. Attention to details and capability to test and raise issues across a very complex stack, involving virtualization, containers and AI workloads running on 3 different platforms.

What you will do

  • Help expand and maintain Podman Desktop and AI Lab extension tests as more AI features are added to the AI Lab plugin.
  • Help design, expand and maintain the tools and frameworks used for implementing E2E test scenarios, automating the tests on various CI systems and across multiple operating systems
  • Be able to provide a comprehensive reports regarding software defects in any area of the project or dependent technology and advocate their resolution with developers. Act as an internal advocate for the customers and participate in interacting with user community or customers
  • Collaborate tightly with the Podman AI Lab team and other teams to provide feedback on new and pending issues, release readiness and general QE status report
  • Take part on the manual testing still required to validate release readiness

What you will bring

  • Proficiency in Typescript or JavaScript language
  • Practical experience with CI/CD systems, any of GitHub Actions, Jenkins, OpenShift pipelines (Tekton) or similar
  • Some practical experience with AI and Large Language Models
  • Experience with runtimes, testing frameworks or tools, like Node.js, Vite, npm, Playwright, Vitest, Mocha or similar

Following is considered a plus

  • Experience with Linux, bash, containers or Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with participating in an agile development team.
  • Development or maintenance of an AI based application
  • Knowledge of AWS or Azure service providers
