Description
The Department of Political Science in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Gender and Diversity in Politics (subfield open). The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025.
The successful candidate must:
• Have a PhD in Political Science or an appropriate, closely related discipline, successfully defended before 1 July 2025.
• Demonstrate a record of research excellence in gender and diversity in politics commensurate with their stage of career development.
• Contribute to the department’s offerings in any of the subfields of Political Science (Canadian, Comparative, Indigenous, International Relations, Theory). We especially encourage applicants with specializations in International Relations or Comparative Politics.
• Demonstrate strong research methods skills relevant to the applicant’s research field and the ability to teach one or more of qualitative, quantitative, or computational research methods courses.
Description of Position
Research Expectations: The successful candidate will be expected to secure external research funding and to disseminate research results through various channels (e.g., publication of monographs, articles in scholarly journals, chapters in essay collections, scholarly international conference presentations, participation in public forums, community engaged scholarship, etc.). We place value on fostering relations with relevant partners (e.g., government, Indigenous groups, academic institutions, community or other non-governmental organizations, etc.).
The candidate is also expected to contribute to the University of Calgary’s Ahead of Tomorrow strategic plan to promote transdisciplinary scholarship and innovation, and UCalgary’s nascent Pluralism Initiative, intended to foster respect for diversity and diverse ways of knowing.
Teaching Expectations: The successful candidate will play an important role both in teaching and in research supervision of undergraduate and graduate students for the Department of Political Science in accordance with their expertise and the department’s teaching needs.
Service Expectations: The successful candidate will be expected to fully engage in departmental and university service at UCalgary, work effectively with people from diverse communities and cultures, and uphold the University’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA).

• A research statement that situates the candidate’s research program within the discipline, their current program and future plans (up to 2 pages)
• A teaching statement, including an articulation of the candidate’s teaching philosophy, approach to course design at the undergraduate and graduate level, and approach to research supervision (up to 2 pages).
