ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

The Lead, Business Planning will facilitate business initiatives across the organization working in alignment with senior leadership to ensure strategic business priorities are identified and implemented.  This role will lead the development and authoring of the organization’s annual business plan and annual report.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Planning and Strategic Support

  • Lead the establishment and continuous improvement of the annual business planning process.

  • Coordinate and develop Ontario Northland’s Business Plan and Annual Report, ensuring compliance with provincial requirements.

  • Gather, verify, and synthesize content and data for business planning documents.

  • Work with senior leaders to define strategic priorities, key performance indicators, and business case requirements.

  • Support Finance in ensuring that operating and capital plans align with business planning objectives.

  • Provide guidance and oversight to the Business Planning Specialist, ensuring alignment with strategic initiatives.

  • Provide guidance and oversight to the Business Planning Specialist, ensuring their work aligns with strategic initiatives, including financial modeling, forecasting, and data analysis to support business planning efforts.

Business Case Development and Analysis

  • Lead the drafting and development of business cases, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. Provide recommendations for refinement and oversee approvals, in collaboration with the Manager of Business Planning and Intelligence.

  • Ensure business cases align with Ontario Northland’s strategic direction and the agency’s letter of direction.

  • Provide training and guidance on business case development and related reporting processes.

  • Conduct research and analysis to support business planning and decision-making.

  • Oversee the work of the Business Case Specialist, ensuring high-quality analysis and alignment with business objectives.

Performance Tracking and Reporting

  • Monitor the progress of business plan initiatives and provide updates to the Manager of Business Planning and Intelligence.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to track and analyze key performance indicators.

  • Develop reports and presentations to communicate insights and recommendations.

  • Ensure the Business Planning Specialist and Business Case Specialist effectively track and report on performance metrics.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting, Project Management, or a related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business operations, strategic planning, financial planning, and/or program management

  • 5+ years experience managing or supervising people 

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Experience in business report writing, including briefing notes and technical documents

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Highly organized with strong time management skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and change management skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams)

  • Commitment to health and safety
