Job Description:Location: Forty GreenWork Type: Full TimeShift: Non UnionGrand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital are Building the Future of Care Together (BFCT) by developing a shared vision for the future of health care and new hospital infrastructure to care for more patients in our community closer to home for decades to come.Led by the Joint VP of Redevelopment, the Building the Future of Care Together Redevelopment Team works collaboratively across both Grand River and St. Mary’s General hospitals to plan, design, and build all components of the redevelopment project together as a new, single organization. This plan includes: A new, state-of-the-art hospital site in Kitchener-Waterloo; renewing and repurposing the existing mid-town K-W Campus as an ambulatory and urgent care centre; renewing and expanding the Freeport Campus in Kitchener for modernized and expanded rehabilitation capacity.All sites would be governed by the new, single organization following the planned merger of Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital in 2025.We currently have an opportunity for a full-time Total Rewards Specialist Human Resources teams.How Total Rewards Specialist support our teams at Grand River and St. Mary’s General Hospital:The incumbent provides front-line service to employees and managers with respect to the hospital’s compensation, benefits, and pension plans. The incumbent ensures the effective delivery of services and communication for compensation, benefits, and pension offerings. Reporting to the Director Talent Acquisition, Workforce Planning & Total Rewards and supporting a collaborative, team-based approach to HR initiatives, the incumbent administers, organizes and provides advice on the operational activities of the Hospital’s compensation, benefits, and pension programs in accordance with provincial/federal legislation and Hospital policy. Primary responsibilities include:COMPENSATION
- Updates and maintains the master salary tables to ensure accuracy of data. Communicates to HR team when there has been a new position approved and/or changes as a result of job evaluation.
- Leads and processes salary adjustments (including systems inputting and communication development and distribution) for economic and/or contract increases. Coordinates retroactive payments with the Payroll Department as deemed necessary.
- Conducts annual salary reviews, participates in benchmark surveys, analyzes and evaluates the competitiveness and effectiveness of salary programs and makes recommendations based on analyses.
- Coordinates the job evaluation processes, including educating managers and employees on the process. Investigates and researches job fact sheets or role profiles as required. Advises affected employees and managers of changes to salary as a result of job evaluation and updates the HRIS system accordingly.
BENEFITS
- Acts as the program administrator for the group benefits at the hospital, including health and dental, group life, long-term disability, and accidental death and dismemberment.
- Monitors benefit carrier updates; draft notification of changes to advise employees of how they will be impacted.
- Participates in the annual renewal of benefit programs and supports the content development of Briefing Notes for changes, revisions or approvals required.
PENSION
- Assists with the administration of the pension plans
COMMUNICATION & EDUCATION
- Acts as the key liaison for managers and employees on entitlements including pension, health and dental benefits, leaves (including pregnancy and parental leave, bereavement, etc.), vacation and compensation (including job evaluation process, grading and assistance with job description development) in accordance with hospital policy, collective agreements, vendor contracts and applicable legislation.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
- Conducts reviews, reports and analyses of compensation and benefit programs, including the provision of metric data for benchmark reporting. This also includes conducting ad hoc reviews and reports when required. Uses report results to identify reporting/auditing needs to build HR reporting tools in order to improve efficiencies and lessen manual effort.
- Partners with the Recruitment & Retention team regarding total compensation and market competitiveness to ensure equitable offers with regards to total compensation are presented to candidates.).
Total Rewards Specialist will bring the following:
- 3 to 5 years’ experience with a focus on compensation and/or benefits and pension
- University degree in HR Management or the equivalent education and experience.
- Professional accreditation preferred (CEBS, CCP, CHRP).
- A dynamic and professional individual with strong analytical, organizational, project management, and attention to detail skills.
- Strong customer service and team player mindset with accompanying interpersonal and communication skills to work with both internal and external stakeholders, at varying levels.
- Self-starter, efficient and able to produce high quality work under pressure and in a timely fashion.
- Capable of managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to tailor communication to various audiences
- Experience in a unionized environment is considered an asset
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, MS Outlook as well as Crystal Reporting.
