Job Description:About The RoleDP World London Gateway are recruiting for Rail & Landside Superintendents. This is an exciting new role with an extremely varied scope, responsible for overseeing all Landside Operations which includes, Rail, BCP (Boarder Control Post), Empty Park, Haulage, Terminal Tractors (TTs) and Gates. To be a success in this role you will be experienced in managing a fast-paced operational environment and team. Have strong financial and commercial acumen whilst maxmising efficiency and productivity. Alongside ensuring safety compliance, security, environmental factors and people development, creating a culture of continuous improvement.NOTE: this a full-time position with a full shift pattern 12-hours, on rotation 2 days, 2 night 4 off.How will you contribute:Technical
- Manage and lead the Shift Landside Team under the direction and guidance of the Shift Manager.
- Ensure that the Landside Team always operate safely, consistently following all procedures and guidelines relevant to the work environment.
- Deliver optimum performance across all Landside Operational Activities: Rail, BCP (Boarder Control Post), Empty Park, Gates, Haulage, Tractor Tugs (TT).
- Strong emphasis/focus on delivering a robust, resilient and compliant Rail Operation across two Rail Terminals.
- Deliver a consistent precise dialog of the Landside Operation, highlighting issues and providing / offering solutions.
Leadership and Management
- Supporting the Shift Manager by providing effective management and leadership of all Landside activities.
- Lead, manage and motivate the team in line with business and people policies and procedures, to ensure the team delivers services in line with expectations (customer service level agreements and business goals and objectives).
- Oversee the management of employee relations for the Landside Team, in line with legislation, best practice, policies, procedures and collective agreements.
- Engage with the on-site Unions and representatives effectively and collaboratively.
Performance and Efficiency
- Direct and drive a performance management culture within the team, ensuring that staff meet their targets in line with the business needs and have regular engagement with their line managers.
- Drive and support a pro-active and innovative mindset and team. Actively encourage and support the implementation of new improvement initiatives: technologies, systems, and processes and procedures. Encourage and develop a culture of continuous improvement.
- Provide regular (clear and precise) commentary, reports, statistics, and data showing performance results against objectives and targets. Use data to support operational decisions and improvement opportunities
Communication and Collaboration
- Collaborate with the customer[s] (internal and external) and contractors to build and develop positive and productive working relationships.
- Work with the Operations Management Team in achieving and sustaining the Terminal Operational Targets and Metrics.
- Ensure that a safe and healthy work environment exists by being responsible for leading, improving and engaging with Health and Safety, Environment and Security Policies and Procedures, including safe working practices and complying with Fatal Risk Standards to achieve full compliance with the relevant legislation.
What you will bring
- Experience and in depth understanding of working in Container Terminal or comparable industry (rail, for example), to understand the type of issues that arise and how to resolve the matters in an efficient and timely fashion.
- A high level of experience and knowledge overseeing and managing the smooth and efficient running of a large and volume Rail operation.
- Previous experience working as an effective manager in a fast-moving operational business.
- Excellent Health, Safety, Security knowledge and understanding.
- Strong, demonstrable proactive, people management and leadership experience.
- Excellent systems and IT knowledge and ability.
- Ability to interface and efficiently communicate and build meaningful relationships at all departmental levels, and present clear and concise reports/presentations.
- Demonstrable experience of proactive problem solving and innovation, driving operational efficiency.
- The ability to work with resilience and positivity under pressure and in a fast paced, changeable environment.

- A full valid UK driving licence or appropriate international licence allowing you to drive on UK roads

- Due to manufacturing guidelines on equipment and site safety critical health and safety requirements, we have strict weight and medical requirements that need to be met and maintained. For our safety critical roles health and medical and fitness checks are performed. Requirements include, but are not limited to, weight, height, blood pressure and hearing.
