Job Summary

Help shape the next chapter of creative education at Chol. We’re looking for a Schools & Education Co-Director to lead strategy, partnerships and practice across our work in schools and education.

Job Description

Chol Theatre is looking for a Schools & Education Co-Director to join our shared organisational leadership team and lead the next phase of our work across schools and education.

Schools and education have been central to Chol’s practice for more than 15 years. Most recently, our four-year Caring & Creative Schools programme enabled us to deepen our work with children, teachers, artists and school leaders, while developing a rich body of learning around creative pedagogy, teacher development, long-term partnerships, play, imagination and co-creation.

We are now looking for someone to help shape the next iteration of this work.

This is not a role about continuing or replicating what has come before. The successful candidate will inherit years of practice, relationships, evidence and learning, and will bring their own expertise, ambition, ideas and critical thinking to help develop Chol’s future schools and education strategy.

The role will lead the development of our education portfolio, including partnerships with schools and Trusts, teacher development, creative pedagogy, future programme models, evaluation and learning, and the sustainability of our schools work.

You will also work collaboratively with the Strive Lead and wider Co-Director team to embed Chol’s organisational approach to anti-racism, equity, inclusion and belonging across schools and education activity.

As a member of Chol’s Co-Director team, you will also contribute to wider organisational strategy, partnerships, fundraising, advocacy, learning and shared decision-making.

We are open to applicants from a range of backgrounds across education, creative learning, arts education, teacher development, cultural education, school leadership, strategy and related practice.

Hours: 3 days per week / 24 hours (0.6 FTE)
Salary: £20,884.50 per annum, based on a full-time equivalent salary of £34,807.50
Contract: Fixed-term contract for 1 year, with the intention to extend subject to funding.

Job Requirements

We are looking for someone with significant experience in schools, education, creative learning, arts education, teacher development, cultural education, strategy or a related field. You will understand the realities of working with schools, build strong relationships with teachers, senior leaders and partners, and be confident working strategically as well as practically. You should value creativity, reflection and evidence-informed practice, and be committed to collaborative, equitable and child-centred ways of working. A commitment to anti-racist practice, equity, inclusion and belonging is essential.

How to Apply

Please send a CV (or alternative summary of your experience) and responses to these three questions:

1. Why this role, and why Chol?
What draws you to this opportunity?

2. Tell us about something you have helped to develop or change.
What was your role, how did you work with others, and what did you learn?

3. How would you approach stepping into this role?
What would you want to understand, explore or prioritise when shaping the next phase of Chol’s schools and education work?

Responses can be written, audio or video.

Send applications to [email protected] by 11.59pm, Sunday 8 November 2026.

Interviews: 18 & 19 November 2026.
