The Department services two programs, two degrees, one diploma, the Child Development Lab and the CSSW Communication Labs.About the RoleThe Department of Child Studies and Social Work is hiring a Departmental Administrative Assistant. Reporting to the Chair, this role functions as the co-lead for daily office operations, providing a range of general administrative duties to ensure that effective administrative support is provided to the Chair, Academic Director (Social Work Program), and Department of Child Studies and Social Work (CSSW). Responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing assistance to ensure effective academic program delivery; providing a resource to Program Coordinators, Academic Advisors, faculty and staff; DCU entry related to Scheduling; assistance with budget reporting, tracking and reconciliation; capital budget; and liaison to the Mount Royal University community and external community..The incumbent for this position is required to understand and work within University systems, policies and procedures, providing academic administration to the Department including tenure administration, contract and full time faculty administration and hiring, FAST, finance, Chrome River Expense Reporting and PCard, CAQC Program Review, Banner, eRecruiter, Instructor Workload Reporting, and other duties as assigned.Qualifications:

  • excellent computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet management, electronic file organization and management and the ability to learn a variety of different institutional software programs;
  • excellent organizational abilities with experience dealing with a wide variety of demands (Scheduling, record keeping, minute taking, budget management);
  • strong time management skills and the ability to assess and manage priorities within a fast paced, deadline driven environment;
  • sound judgement and professionalism and the ability to complete tasks with little supervision;
  • ability to communicate and problem solve with other university units, in particular, Scheduling, Maintenance, Custodial, Human Resources, Payroll, to name a few;
  • attention to detail is essential, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • experience in administration, ideally at a post secondary institution is advantageous.
  • administrative training (diploma or certification is required).
