The Maryland Department of Labor Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning is accepting applications from qualified applicants for the position to build an applicant pool for current and anticipated position vacancies. This is a professional position responsible for providing teaching and learning to residents of a correctional facility. This is an Agency specific recruitment for this specific classification and function only with the MD Department of Labor.
This position could be placed in any classification within the Teacher Series. Salary and exact classification will be determined following an assessment of the selected candidate’s education and MSDE Certification using the IEPP Salary Scale.

This position is to create a classroom learning environment in which assigned inmate students make measurable progress toward identified educational goals as indicated by the successful completion of requirements for the Maryland Certificate of Achievement in Adult Literarcy and Life Skills and/or Maryland High School Diploma.
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Education: Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
Experience: None.
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1) One year or more years of experience working in a correctional institution;
2) Experience providing instructions to adult learners;
3) Certification and/or experience in Language Arts and Social Studies;
4) Experience with collaborative teaching.
Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the division of Unemployment Insurance (LABOR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to LABOR/DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
