About the Faculty
The University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM), Alberta’s only veterinary school, is a research-intensive faculty with expanding research, graduate education, and advanced clinical trainee programs. Recognized globally for its pioneering curriculum and hands-on clinical training, UCVM operates on a unique distributive model, partnering with private practices and organizations to provide DVM students with workplace-based learning opportunities. UCVM offers a comprehensive DVM program, Graduate degrees (MSc, PhD), and specialized clinical training (internships, fellowships, residencies). UCVM’s AVMA accredited DVM program provides a comprehensive general veterinary education to approximately 50 students per year, with an increased expansion to 100 students to start in the fall semester of 2026.

Position Description
The University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) invites applications for academic scholars in Radiology (Diagnostic Imaging). We are looking to fill one or two full-time positions available in the Teaching and Research stream. Depending on qualifications and career track expectations, the appointments will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (with tenure) in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The anticipated start date is September 01, 2025, or a mutually agreed upon date.

The position requires a DVM (or equivalent). Board certification (DACVR and/or Dipl. ECVR) is preferred, but board-eligible ACVR or ECVR residency-trained candidates will be considered. An additional graduate degree is considered an asset. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta.

Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching and Research) normally requires evidence or promise of original high-quality research and scholarship and future development as a scholar. Evidence or promise of the ability to obtain funding may also be required where appropriate. Evidence or promise of teaching proficiency or professional activity may also be required.

Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor (Teaching and Research) requires evidence of an established academic program of a caliber equivalent to national recognition by peers. It is expected that a record of high-quality research and scholarship suitable to the discipline or field has been achieved. Evidence of ability to obtain funding to sustain a research program is required. Evidence of teaching effectiveness and expertise, including a demonstrated ability to teach a variety of courses, and ability to design learning experiences may be required. A satisfactory record of and active involvement in university, professional or community service is expected.

The University of Calgary has a Distributed Veterinary Teaching Hospital and clinical time is spent in clinics in the community. Clinical opportunities are wide and varied and the successful candidate will be given guidance and support in establishing relationships with local clinics, based on desires and opportunities available.
