The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time probationary (tenure-track) appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Criminology. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Department seeks a Criminology/Socio-Legal Studies scholar. The ideal candidate will have specialization in racialization, anti-racism, and/or anti-colonialism; however, we will consider multiple areas of criminological or socio-legal expertise. The candidate should be able to teach existing courses in the Criminology Program, including required introductory-level core courses such as SOC 2510 (Criminology) and/or SOC 2610 (Sociology of Criminal Justice and Corrections). In addition, they are expected to develop course(s) related to their area of specialization.

Duties for this position include externally funded research as appropriate in the candidate’s area of expertise, course development, in-person undergraduate and graduate teaching including the opportunity to teach in computer-mediated delivery modes, graduate supervision, and service within the University and the community. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, or Socio-Legal Studies by the commencement of the appointment. Applicants in cognate disciplines may be considered. A successful candidate who is near completion of their PhD may be appointed to a term position at the rank of Lecturer until successful completion of their degree, at which time they will convert to a probationary (tenure-track) appointment as an Assistant Professor. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
