The School of Languages and Literatures (SOLAL) at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in French Studies with teaching experience and research specialization in Second language acquisition, pedagogy, or a closely related field. The anticipated start date for this appointment is July 1, 2025, or another mutually agreed-upon date in 2025.

This position emphasizes inclusive and innovative teaching in French language and francophones cultures, with a strong commitment to pedagogical expertise in second language acquisition. The successful candidate will play an important role in future curriculum design and student-centered approaches that support diverse learners, particularly in bilingual education, linguistic justice, and accessibility in language learning. A demonstrated interest in French for professional and applied contexts and community-engaged learning is also welcome.

Applications from individuals whose work expands the field of French Studies beyond Eurocentric perspectives, particularly those engaging with global Francophone cultures, Indigenous knowledge systems, and underrepresented linguistic communities are encouraged. As SOLAL undertakes a period of renewal, the successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to the development of new academic initiatives, including potential professional master’s programs and pathways that support bilingual teacher education. The candidate will play an integral role in both undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervision, helping to shape the next generation of scholars, educators, and professionals.

We seek a scholar whose research, teaching, and service actively contribute to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and who fosters learning environments where diverse perspectives, languages, and lived experiences are valued. We strongly welcome and invite applications from scholars from equity-deserving communities. As part of our commitment to inclusive hiring, we recognize that traditional academic pathways may present barriers for scholars from equity-deserving communities. If your career has followed a non-traditional trajectory or if you have experienced systemic barriers in academia, we encourage you to highlight these in your application.

The School looks forward to welcoming a colleague whose work will diversify and strengthen our academic community, and we are committed to supporting their success through mentorship, collaboration, and institutional resources.
