Department of Architecture
Faculty of Architecture
Assistant Professor in Architectural History and Theory
Position 35085
The Faculty of Architecture invites applicants for a full-time probationary (tenure-track) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture, commencing on 1 July 2025.
We are seeking candidates who can address the critical role that colonial practices have played in western architecture since antiquity, as well as the exploration of non-western architectural practices, including Indigenous cultures, from ancient times to the present. The successful candidate will contribute to a suite of lecture courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels offering critical historical, theoretical and global perspectives on past and present trends in architecture. This position will also entail studio teaching that links these perspectives to design practice.
The responsibilities of the successful candidate are divided into 40% teaching, 40% research and creative activity and 20% institutional service. Teaching responsibilities include one of three levels of professional design studio; collaborating in delivery of our four-course history and theory sequence; advising students in their comprehensive Design Thesis; and instructing topical graduate elective coursework. Research and Creative Activity in the Faculty of Architecture (FAUM) can include research (qualitative and/or quantitative, various forms), professional practice (application and theory-building, public dissemination), applied scholarship (typically community-involved non-remunerative), and creative work (visual arts, new media, product design). Service includes serving on Department, Faculty and University committees; contributing to collegial discussions; participating as a guest critic in studios and guest lecturer in courses; and service to local and broader community interests in the discipline and profession.
