The School of Engineering at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in the area of Computer Engineering (Intelligent Embedded Systems). The anticipated start date for this appointment is September 1, 2025, or another mutually agreed-upon date in the academic year 2025.
Qualifications:
• The candidate must hold an undergraduate university degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and an earned MASc & PhD in Computer Engineering or a closely related field.
• Must have P.Eng status or be eligible for P.Eng registration in the Province of Ontario.
• A strong publication record in high-quality, peer-reviewed, journals.
• Experience in curriculum development and student-centered teaching methodologies.
• Excellent communication skills and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The applicant is expected to develop a highly innovative and internationally visible research program in the hardware and software design of intelligent embedded systems with machine learning capabilities. We are looking for applicants with a strong background in areas including hardware-software co-design, smart networked sensor, deep learning algorithms on dedicated hardware, edge computing, edge AI, communication networks, network management, and internet-of-things (IoT). Applicants should be active in both software and hardware research, with an application-oriented vision. Research profiles capable of establishing clear links with existing activities in analog/digital circuit design, communication networks and network management, IoT, robotics, and hardware accelerators in the Computer Engineering program or Engineering Systems and Computing (ES&C) within the School of Engineering at Guelph are particularly welcomed.
The successful candidate must be committed to innovative and engaging teaching. They should be interested in teaching classes in the various areas of embedded systems. The ability to lead a strong research group is expected.
