Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, this role collaborates with leadership, faculty, staff, and gift officers to highlight the impact of donor support and inspire continued engagement.

Penn Arts & Sciences forms the foundation of the scholarly excellence that has established Penn as one of the world’s leading research universities. The largest of Penn’s academic divisions, SAS is the home of 27 departments that represent a full range of disciplines. The College, SAS’s undergraduate division, enrolls 6,500 students and is by far the largest undergraduate school at Penn. SAS also includes the Graduate Division, the College of Liberal and Professional Studies and numerous research centers and programs. The School’s Office of Advancement recognizes the importance of the liberal arts as the source of knowledge that changes the world and education that changes individual’s lives and is committed to generating enthusiasm and support for the School and its mission.
Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, the Associate Director of Donor Relations is a key member of the Donor Relations team. The Associate Director will work closely with major gift officers to implement creative donor recognition projects to strengthen and cultivate relationships between Penn Arts & Sciences and principal gift-level donors. This position is responsible for communicating the impact of philanthropic support with the School’s most generous donors to encourage and inspire future philanthropic support and engagement. This includes special donor recognition projects, reporting analysis and strategy, enhancing systems for reporting, and implementing new digital communications platforms. The Associate Director is responsible for managing the School’s endowed professorship reporting portfolio, which includes writing and producing professorship reports on behalf of the School. In addition, the Associate Director will be responsible for writing personal and compelling stewardship reports and acknowledgments on behalf of School leadership, as well as drafting and editing scholarship reports. The position involves working closely with colleagues in SASOA, Penn leadership, faculty, staff, and major gift officers.
Specific Duties
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of progressive experience in donor relations, stewardship, or development communications, preferably in higher education, required. Successful candidates must have exceptional written, communication, and proofreading skills. Writing samples are required.
Successful candidates must be highly creative and organized. A high level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with a proven ability to independently manage and execute multiple concurrent priorities and projects, meet deadlines, and track progress and activities. Previous project management experience, including the use of donor reporting software, is preferred.
The position will also require strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, tactfully, and sensitively with a broad range of constituencies, including donors, faculty, staff, and Penn leadership—and the ability to work effectively in a large, complex institutional setting and as part of a team.
Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows (Excel, Word). Knowledge of databases and contact management systems. Salesforce experience is a plus, as well as the ability to learn new systems and databases unique to Penn.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
