Children’s Movement Program Instructor 

Department: Brock Recreation 

Full-time Supervisors: Program Manager, Youth University

Pay: Contract (honorarium) position – Brock Student position 

Start date: September 2025 – intended as a 2 term commitment 

Positions Available: 3 Instructor positions 

Job Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Attend and participate in training workshops prior to the start of the CMP session. Assist in planning and delivering training session for volunteers.
 
  • Develop safe, age-appropriate lesson plans that incorporate different activities based on movement concepts/themes provided by the curriculum coordinator to be handed in with floor plan at CMP at least one week prior to lesson. Make corrections based on feedback received from curriculum coordinator and faculty advisor.
 
  • Submit equipment list to curriculum coordinator one week prior to lesson.
 
  • Choose appropriate equipment and music for each lesson.
 
  • Monitor safety of all participants and ensure volunteers continually monitor safety of equipment and participants. Make changes to equipment and lessons where needed. 
  • Instruct three 45-minute movement lessons for assigned age groups each week on Saturday mornings. 
  • Provide information to parents/guardians when required.
 
  • Organize and assist with take-down of equipment each week.
 
  • Attend the weekly meeting after CMP.
 
  • Provide all lesson plans after teaching to curriculum coordinator for CMP library.
 
  • Lead your team of volunteers to effectively and safely deliver lesson plans. 
  • Create a positive and enthusiastic environment for children. 

Qualifications 

  • Current Brock Kinesiology/Physical Education student – Minimum first year complete and volunteer experience in CMP an asset.
 
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification.
 
  • Experience teaching children.
 
  • Knowledge of the safe use of equipment and gymnasium space.
 
  • Understanding and knowledge of the emergency action plan used in the event of an accident. 
  • The successful candidate is required to submit a vulnerable sector certificate once hired. 

Expectations of Student Staff

  • Provide quality instruction and safe program to participants each week.
 
  • Represent CMP and Brock University professionally.
 
  • MUST attend all CMP classes.
 
  • Arrive for program on time.
 
  • Administer first aid when necessary.
 
  • Attendance and participation at all staff meetings and training sessions.
