Job Overview

The Communications Associate (“CA”) is responsible for writing, producing, and editing content across a range of products that contribute to the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs’ (“Center’s”) work at the intersection of religion and world affairs.

Work Interactions

The Communications Associate will report to the Executive Director and will collaborate with Center faculty and staff, including the Communications Director, the Lead Software Developer, the Events and Office Coordinator, and the Multimedia Creative Producer, to research, write, and edit content for multiple products, including articles for digital and print publications, social media channels (including X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn), and grant proposals and reports.

Of particular importance will be finding ways to capture and promote faculty members’ research and contributions to their respective fields that take place at and beyond the Center, along with supporting the work of the Communications Director. The Communications Associate may also be tasked with reviewing or developing language for new Center projects (e.g., letters of inquiry, grant applications), donor materials (e.g., gift proposals, donor collateral), and shorter research pieces (e.g., background memos, white papers). Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Research, outline, draft, and edit content for Center programs, typically for publication on the Georgetown or other websites.
  • Develop digital features (including audio/video content) for Center and Georgetown websites.
  • Take part in multimedia content production from storyboarding to interviewing and editing, occasionally overseeing projects from beginning to end.
  • Draft or edit grant/gift proposals, donor collateral, and short research pieces like background memos.
  • Produce publications in collaboration with faculty and staff colleagues, including contributing to research and drafting and substantial editing from initial drafts through to final layout.

Requirements and Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Exceptional research, writing and editing skills
  • Familiarity with issues at the intersection of religion and world affairs

Preferred:

  • Journalistic experience and familiarity with content management systems and social media platforms
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, and the ability to meet tight deadlines. Experience producing video and audio products
  • Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in communications and content design. Practical knowledge of marketing and branding principles, including style guides
  • Facility with Adobe software, particularly Photoshop and InDesign

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$19.20 – $28.70

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
