Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking to hire a strategic and innovative communications leader to fill the role of Asia Pacific Communications Director. The Director leads communications for Habitat for Humanity’s work across the Asia Pacific region, aligning with and advancing Habitat’s global brand strategy. This role is pivotal in promoting the Habitat brand to targeted audiences within the region and globally, driving awareness, advocacy, program success, and fundraising initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership:
*Serve as a key member of the regional management team, contributing to the overall strategic direction and effectiveness of Habitat’s work in Asia Pacific.
*Develop and execute communications strategies to elevate Habitat’s brand, advocacy efforts, and program visibility.
Content Creation and Distribution:
*Oversee the development of compelling content, including stories, multimedia, and campaigns, that resonate with regional and global audiences.
*Identify and leverage strategically important platforms, channels, and initiatives for delivering content to maximize impact.
Team Management:
*Lead a talented team of four communications professionals, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and results-driven environment.
*Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, ensuring professional growth and high performance.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
*Build and maintain collaborative relationships across the organization, including Global Communications, fundraising teams, advocacy staff, and program teams.
*Partner closely with the Asia Pacific Regional Vice President to support regional events, message development, and other initiatives to strengthen Habitat’s positioning in the region.
Advocacy and Fundraising:
*Collaborate with Habitat’s global donor network to enhance fundraising efforts through tailored communications.
*Support advocacy campaigns that promote Habitat’s mission and objectives within the Asia Pacific region.
Reporting and Management:
*Report to the Senior Director, Global Program Communications, ensuring alignment with global strategies and goals.
*Lead and inspire the regional communications team, effectively managing workloads, setting clear priorities, and driving successful outcomes.
*Key internal partners include the Asia Pacific Regional Vice President, other members of the Asia Pacific Regional leadership team, organizations and Institutions, and communications colleagues in Asia Pacific and around the world.
The Asia Pacific Communications Director plays a vital role in advancing Habitat for Humanity’s mission by positioning the organization as a leader in affordable housing solutions. This role requires a strategic thinker, skilled communicator, and collaborative leader dedicated to building a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The ability to manage and nurture a high-performing team is central to the success of this position. The ideal candidate is an outside-the-box thinker and a self-starter who challenges the status quo, embraces a “how might we” attitude, and isn’t afraid to experiment with new ideas to test and learn.
Storytelling and brand-building (25%)
*Lead the development of content for key communications platforms, ensuring projects are consistent with organizational brand strategy and Asia Pacific Regional strategy.
*Play a lead role in identifying the communications channels, platforms and events in the region that can best deliver Habitat’s content to audiences that are strategically important for brand positioning, fundraising, advocacy and/or programs. This includes securing media coverage of Habitat’s work and strategic initiatives across broadcast, radio, print and online media in Asia Pacific.
Communications strategy (20%)
*Collaborate closely with the Senior Director, Global Program Communications, and others on the Global Program Communications team to develop and implement aspects of the Global Program Communications strategy related to Asia Pacific.
*Work with the Asia Pacific Regional Vice President and management team to develop communications strategies that help advance regional initiatives related to brand-building, programs, advocacy and fundraising, with a special emphasis on meeting the needs of Habitat’s global network of donors and supporters.
Program communications (20%)
*Help interpret Habitat’s programming and expertise for strategically important audiences by preparing both the messaging and the messengers.
*Support Habitat fundraisers with the necessary communications collateral related to programs in Asia Pacific so that they can continue to gain support from Habitat’s global network of donors.
*Support subject matter experts and other program staff by editing presentations or developing talking points.
Regional signature events (10%)
*Lead on communications planning and implementation for the regional signature events.
Social media (10%)
*Support social media efforts related to Asia Pacific. This includes developing innovative/thumb-stopping regional and local content/materials, working with national organizations and Global Program Communications colleagues to ensure timely, accurate, compelling information about Habitat’s work in Asia Pacific is shared across a range of social media platforms.
*Support national organizations in Asia Pacific in their social media activities and increase supporter engagement.
Team management (10%)
*Supervise and support a team of four communications professionals, ensuring their efforts align with regional and global objectives while cultivating a positive and high-performing team culture.
*Guide team members’ professional development through regular feedback, skill-building opportunities, and clear performance expectations, enabling them to excel in advancing Habitat’s mission.
Other related duties as assigned by supervisor (5%)
REQUIREMENTS
*Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field.
*10+ years of related experience in regional communications work across multiple countries, especially managing regional projects with multiple stakeholders.
*3+ years of experience with media relations in Asia Pacific.
*Experience developing successful communications strategies that help advance both larger organizational objectives and those of a particular team or initiative within an organization.
*Proficiency in building creative concepts and demonstrated ability to see storytelling projects through to completion, including both written and visual aspects.
*Proven ability to write, edit, evaluate and curate strong content and design, while meeting brand, marketing and messaging needs.
*Strong communications and problem-solving skills.
*Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural competencies and organizational and project management skills that demonstrate an ability to successfully collaborate with a variety of departments and stakeholders.
*A demonstrated ability to think creatively, challenge the status quo, and approach challenges with a “how might we” mindset, using innovative strategies to test and learn.
