The starting salary package for this position is £53,332 GBP / approx. $66,297 USD, including all allowances.

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments in safely managing weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role

MAG is hiring for a Country Finance Manager to provide strategic and operational financial leadership and support to the Syria programme. Reporting to the Country Director, you will be responsible to act as the Finance Business Partner to the Senior Management Team (SMT), providing expert and insightful support in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of annual business/project plans, budgets, and forecasts. Working collaboratively with the SMT to produce options/scenarios/corrective action plans that ensure ongoing financial stability. Additionally, support the SMT in the monitoring of projects, analysing, reporting and forecasting cost inputs, linking inputs to activities delivered and outputs generated.

About you

MAG will be looking for candidates with extensive experience working internationally at a senior management level in large-scale humanitarian or development programmes. You will have demonstrable experience of working in finance managerial positions overseas, preferably in International Aid and development with a Humanitarian Agency. Effective financial management skills including financial scenario planning and good understanding of financial risk management approaches. You will also have a professional accounting qualification, e.g. ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent. In addition, experience within the region is desirable.

About the Syria programme

MAG has been responding to the Syria crisis since 2013, by finding and destroying explosive remnants of war so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. MAG’s operations are in North East Syria, where this role will be based. In addition to leading our current programme in the North East, you will also support further business development initiatives across all of Syria, based on where and how opportunities arise in the future.
