Job SummaryWe’re seeking a skilled Database Engineer (DBA) with at least two years of experience to join our Cloud Engineering Team – Database branch. This is a great development opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud technologies in a collaborative and supportive work environment. You’ll be able to work independently as well as be a team-player who communicates effectively with technical and non technical people. There will be plenty of exciting opportunities to learn new skills across different platforms and get involved with various projects where you’ll be encouraged to make improvements and suggestions. You will play a crucial role in configuration, maintenance, performance tuning and securing of our critical database systems.In return, we offer a competitive salary dependent on experience, 25 days holiday pro rata, plus bank holidays, entry into our contributor pension scheme, life assurance, Perks at work and other discount schemes as well as an Employee Assistance Programme.The main responsibilities of the Database Engineer are:

  • Database Management: configure, upgrade, and maintain database systems
  • Migrations: On-Prem to cloud, cross database platforms
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies to ensure optimal efficiency
  • Backup and Recovery: Ensure Backup and Recovery plans in place to safeguard data against loss or corruption
  • Security and Audits: Implement and enforce database security measures, including reporting for auditing purposes
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database issues quickly
  • Call Queue Management: Monitor and resolve support tickets efficiently
  • Documentation: Maintain documentation of configurations, procedures and changes
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Cloud Engineering Team, Project Managers, and other IT members to ensure seamless integration and support of database systems

Key Competencies

  • Database Architecture: Understanding the physical and logical structure of SQL Server databases
  • Installation and Configuration: Setting up new SQL Server instances and configuring them for optimal performance and security
  • Backup and Recovery: Creating and testing backup and recovery plans to protect data and ensure business continuity in case of failures
  • Security Management: Implementing access controls, encryption, and auditing to safeguard sensitive data
  • Diagnostic Skills: Quickly identifying and resolving database issues (performance problems, data corruption, connectivity errors)
  • Root Cause Analysis: Determining the underlying causes of database problems to prevent recurrence

Skills and KnowledgeEssential:

  • Proven track record of at least 2 years as a SQL Server DBA, managing and maintaining database systems
  • Good knowledge of database technologies, T-SQL, query optimization, backup and recovery procedures, and security best practices
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

Desirable:

  • Experience with cloud database technologies (e.g., Google Cloud)
  • Other Database Platforms , MYSQL, Postgres
  • Knowledge of database replication and high availability solutions
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Powershell)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Networking\Firewall Configuration

The role does not qualify for a visa under the current Government guidelines therefore to be considered for this role you must already have the right to work in the UK. Relocation costs will not be granted.
