School of Physical Science and Technology (SPST):

Officially approved to open on September 30th 2013 by China’s Ministry of Education, ShanghaiTech University is a small-scale research university jointly established by Shanghai Municipal Government and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), which located at Zhang-Jiang High-Tech Park in Shanghai, China. ShanghaiTech focuses on science and engineering with expected enrollment of 4,000 graduate and 2,000 undergraduate students.

The School of Physical Science and Technology (SPST) at ShanghaiTech University aims to create an environment that embodies the future of academic research and talent cultivation. At the heart of SPST are our faculty, staff, and students, who are dedicated to solving major challenges in materials, energy, and the environment.

Academic Disciplines:

Materials： Smart Materials，Atomic-level Manufacturing，Multiscale Representations，Energy Materials and Devices

Physics： Condensed Matter Physics， Computational Physics， Photonics Science，Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics

Chemistry：Chemical Biology，Physical Chemistry，Catalytic Chemistry，Synthetic Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry

Qualifications:

This search is open to candidates in all broadly defined areas of Materials，Physics and Chemistry. Competitive candidates should have a Ph.D., an outstanding record of research accomplishments, an innovative future research plan, an ability to achieve teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community in the practice and teaching of science. The successful candidates will be expected to have excellent academic achievements, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and a commitment to university service and public outreach. Tenure-track faculty: Assistant Professor or Associate Professor

Center for Transformative Science (CTS):

Center for Transformative Science (CTS) is a new interdisciplinary institute of ShanghaiTech University. At CTS, we solve complex real-world problems using cutting edge big science facilities and instruments; we invent next generation powerful tools used by scientists; we cultivate scientists and innovations to explore matter in new ways. CTS is planning to establish 20-25 independent research laboratories in the near future. Each laboratory has multiple openings at various levels such as Co-PI/Research Professor/Research Associate Professor/Research Assistant Professor. Excellent candidates could be employed as tenure-track/tenured Professors together with School of Physical Science and Technology (SPST), School of Information Science and Technology (SIST), School of Life Science and Technology (SLST), etc.

Academic Disciplines:

Excellent applicants in all fields are welcome to apply. Applicants in the following areas are encouraged but not limited:

1. Theory and simulation of photon-matter interactions, particularly its applications in ultrafast laser/X-ray spectroscopy.
2. Novel methods for characterizing, accessing, and manipulating amorphous materials and biological materials.
3. Coherent diffraction imaging and its applications in free electron laser, synchrotron radiation, and electron microscopy; Super-resolution fluorescence microscopy and its applications.
4. New in-situ and operando characterization method development for synchrotron radiation and X-ray free electron laser and its applications in energy science and life science
5. Pixel array x-ray/electron detectors and big data analysis.

Qualifications:

1. With excellent academic and scientific research background, applicants should have a doctoral degree in science and engineering, generally with postdoctoral experience.
2. With innovative and independent ideas and research ability, applicants should be able to set up an independent research group, with good teamwork ability.
3. Experience in large science project or interdisciplinary research is preferred.
