Job Summary:

Instructional Media and Technology Services (IMATS) is looking for a Graduate Assistant who will support various projects related to using Generative Artificial Intelligence as an Instructional Technology.

Job Description:

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI in education while staying at the forefront of technological advancements. Responsibilities conducting hands-on workshops, exploring AI tools, and collaborating with both technical and non-technical colleagues to increase AI literacy at Barnard. The successful candidate will be part of an initial cohort working on some collaborative GAI-related projects with our partners in the Center for Engaged Pedagogy (CEP).

This is primarily an in-person position, with some flexibility for hybrid work as approved by your supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities:

•  Host open studios and help with workshops  on the use of Generative AI in teaching, learning, and other applications for faculty, students, and staff.

• Become familiar with Barnard’s Framework for AI Literacy and apply its methodology when discussing generative AI.

• Research and test generative AI tools, sharing recommendations and findings with colleagues in IMATS and the CEP.

• Monitor and stay up-to-date with the latest technological advancements and trends in generative AI; regularly share relevant updates with the team.

• Coordinate activities for our Generative AI Learning Community

• Perform administrative tasks related to event planning and promotion, project management, and documentation.

• Participate in new generative AI initiatives or programs as they arise.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

• 1 year of part-time of full-time work experience

• Knowledge and experience using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DALL-E, Midjourney, or Firefly, ideally in instructional settings.

• Understanding of how generative AI technologies work, including a conceptual grasp of LLMs, neural networks, and machine learning.

• Ability to clearly communicate about AI with both technical colleagues (e.g., software developers) and non-technical audiences (e.g., faculty in non-technical disciplines).

• Demonstrated interest in the use of generative AI in educational settings, including questions of ethics and policy.

• Willingness to experiment with generative AI technologies, including testing and evaluating AI tools, trying new approaches to prompt engineering, or building custom GPTs.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

To qualify, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and be actively enrolled in a graduate program (such as a Master’s, Ph.D., or Ed.D.)

Preference will be given to those who are available to stay in this role through the rest of the Spring 2025 semester and the 2025-2026 academic year (through May 2026). Working during summer 2025 would be optional.

Compensation: $32.50/hour; 10 hrs. per week on average

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
