INDUSTRY EDUCATION SPECIALIST:

$72,479.17 – $83,518.06 Annually

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Research and Education, the Industry Education Specialist is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating education offerings and learning events for residential industry and consumers pursuant to the Homeowner Protection Act. He/She/They ensures the quality of the education offerings designed under adult education principles and advances best practices based on evidence-based research. The position provides guidance on the focus of learning development and delivery through the development of sector relationships, consultation with stakeholders, and use of the knowledge of colleagues in the Research Centre and Licensing and Consumer Services branches. The position develops and facilitates learning opportunities through a-learning and/or in-person, and guides stakeholders in the development and facilitation of learning opportunities. The position is also responsible for the administration of the Building Excellence Research and Education Grants, a combined endeavour between the Research Centre and Licensing and Consumer Services. 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma in adult education, educational design, or other relevant discipline.
  • Considerable experience in developing and delivering adult education programs including online training.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the employer.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of equity, inclusion, diversity, and belonging to apply for educational programs and events
  • Working knowledge of the residential construction industry
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the housing system in B.C, the regulatory environment, and the socio-economic context for all forms of housing, particularly supportive, social, and affordable housing
  • Ability to learn and understand departmental policies and procedures and BC Housing’s mandate and programs
  • Ability to manage and influence in a virtual environment
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders that are working on similar topics, motivate partners and ensure that they meet deadlines and accomplish the appropriate tasks
  • Ability to meet commitments on time and within budget
  • Ability to proactively and continuously seek out better ways to operate, faster, quicker, and more intelligently
  • Strong professional and interpersonal communication skills across a range of channels (written, oral, other) and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional groups to achieve common goals.
  • Strong public speaking, facilitation, and presentation skills
  • Strong contract management skills
  • Strategic and analytical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
