Description

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is dedicated to promoting social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights, pursuing its founding mission: that social justice is essential for universal and lasting peace.

The UN’s only ‘tripartite’ agency, the ILO brings together governments, employers and workers from 187 member states to set labour standards and formulate policies and programmes that promote decent work.

The ILO’s mission is based on four strategic objectives:

  • Promote and enforce standards, principles and fundamental rights at work
  • Create greater opportunities for women and men to have decent jobs and incomes
  • Improve the coverage and effectiveness of social security for all

Within the framework of its work programme, the ILO Country Office for Argentina addresses the following topics: employment and vocational training policies, fair transition towards a green economy, care economy, transition from the informal to the formal economy, non-discrimination, safety and health at work, harassment and violence in the world of work, unacceptable forms of work (in particular, child labour and forced labour), labour inspection, strengthening of employers’ and workers’ organizations and promotion of social dialogue. This Programme is part of the global programming frameworks agreed upon by the ILO Governing Body and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the ILO Declarations on Fundamental Principles and Rights (1998), Social Justice (2008) and the Future of Work (2019), the Global Call to Action for a People-Centred Recovery from the COVID-19 Crisis that is Inclusive, Sustainable and Resilient (2021), as well as the United Nations System Strategic Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development in Argentina (MECNUD).
