Successful candidates will engage only in the teaching and service duties of faculty members in the Midwifery Education Program, while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. The candidates will contribute to our undergraduate (BHSc) program through teaching, mentoring and supervision of students to facilitate junior scholars and diversity in the field.
Candidates will be hired at 0.5 FTE, taking into account the need to maintain currency in clinical midwifery. The teaching workload for LTF appointments at TMU is normally 6 courses per academic year, and successful candidates will have a prorated teaching workload of 3 courses for each academic year (0.5 FTE) as well as service responsibilities. Teaching and service work will involve regular in-person teaching and other activities on the TMU campus.
Candidates must hold a master’s degree in a field relevant to midwifery by the appointment date.
In addition, candidates must present evidence of:
being a Registered or Indigenous Midwife in Canada;
at least 5 years (full-time equivalent) of clinical midwifery experience, including antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care;
being in current practice in Ontario or plan to practice in Ontario;
understanding of midwifery education in Ontario;
understanding of the context and scope of practice of midwifery in Ontario;
demonstrated commitment to social justice and reproductive justice;
record of service to vulnerable communities, community organizations, or health-related committees (such as the Association of Ontario Midwives and/or the National Council of Indigenous Midwives);
demonstrated capacity for teaching excellence at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, as evidenced by a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy statement, experience with course administration, and curriculum review and/or development, examples of best practices in pedagogy, including effective use of classroom technology and any experience with experiential learning, sample syllabi, strong teaching evaluations, teaching awards, and other relevant achievements in teaching;
demonstrated commitment to our values of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it pertains to teaching and service activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
an ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Midwifery Education Program and the University through collegial service.
Our committee recognizes that scholars have varying career paths and that career interruptions can be part of an excellent academic record. Candidates are encouraged to provide any relevant information about their experience and/or career interruptions.
Note: Limited Term Faculty appointments at Toronto Metropolitan University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Toronto Metropolitan LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply.
