Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic radiologist with specialist training in paediatric radiology to join our team of 8. Initially, the position will be a locum role, with a substantive consultant post available from May 2025. The two positions are expected to run consecutively.
You will have sub-specialist training in paediatric radiology from a recognised tertiary paediatric centre. Areas of sub-specialisation are open to discussion, but applicants interested in paediatric neuroradiology should demonstrate extended specialist training (preferably at fellowship level).
The position is full-time, but if a consultant is unable to work full-time, we will consider flexible arrangements. In such cases, job content adjustments will be discussed individually with the Trust and Consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Team Lead, your responsibilities will include:
- Work alongside Consultant colleagues at SCFT to provide daytime and on-call specialist Imaging Services at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Jessop Wing Special Care Baby Unit (Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – STHFT).
- Services will include general paediatric radiology – plain film, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and fluoroscopy.
- The South Yorkshire training scheme (STHFT) offers first on-call registrar cover for general paediatric imaging (e.g., CT and ultrasound). Consultants will cover first on-call for fluoroscopic studies, imaging of inflicted injury, MRI, and neonatal imaging.
- On-call commitment: 1 in 7.
- Weeknight on-call: 5 pm to 9 am the following morning.
- Weekend on-call: 5 pm Friday to 9 am Monday.
- The post may include one day of off-site work in a District General Hospital approximately every 4 weeks.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- FRCR or equivalent higher qualification
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent or within 6 months of gaining CCT
- Full GMC Registration
- Completion of sub-specialty training in pediatric radiology in an approved location as determined by the relevant Royal College committees.
Experience
Essential
- General paediatric radiology on-call experience in a tertiary paediatric center (especially for suspected malrotation and reduction of intussusception)
Desirable
- Experience of independent on-call in a tertiary paediatric center.
- Paediatric radiology fellowship
Knowledge and Skills

- Understanding of NHS management responsibilities on consultants

- Substantial experience in pediatric radiology.
- Experience in conducting interventional procedures (biopsy, aspiration and drainage)
