The Mammography Technologist is responsible for providing quality patient care and the highest care and the highest quality imaging examinations. This is accomplished by demonstrating clinical competence, facilitating an ongoing continuous quality control/improvement process of the services offered.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communication – Interdepartmental – Communicating with other departments via intercom, phone, fax, computer.
- Communication – Patient/Family/Significant Other – Provide to patients/families/significant others the responses/interventions that relate to their plan of care or treatment, i.e., explaining of procedures, treatment, schedules, cost, etc.
- Treatments and/or Procedures – Perform any mammographic diagnosing procedure for a patient.
- Maintenance and Records – Reports any issues and concerns with the mammography equipment to the QC Technologist and/or Manager. Knows how to contact support if the QC tech and/or Manager are not available (during off shifts). Is able to perform the QC for the bone density machine.
- Patient Care – Provides high quality mammography examinations and technical procedures. Selects proper technical factors, based on diagnosis, age and adheres to departmental protocols. Operates equipment efficiently, completing exams without undue delays. Practices the code of ethics of Radiologic Technology. Assesses and maintains knowledge of the patients condition and responds to changes appropriately.
- Documentation – Documents on the patient care and equipment records. Performs all clerical duties related to the completion of the diagnostic procedure as directed.
- Teaching – Participates in the education of departmental personnel on quality assurance and ot her advances in the profession.
- Will assist the radiologist/surgeon in performing mammotome biopsies and/or needle localization of the breast.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE
- Preferred of one year technical experience. Preferred one year of mammography experience.
EDUCATION
- Graduate of AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology program.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Registered by the A.R.R.T. in Radiologic Technology and Mammography.
- Valid New York State Radiographic license from the Department of Health.
OTHER
- ARRT(M) certification is mandated by ACR accreditation. Mammography Registry (AART [M]) will be obtaining within one year of hire date. Employees must comply with ACR regulations on certification.
