Enterprise Function: This role is a high-level financial management position that oversees the hospital financial management for radiology services across an MGB healthcare system (North Division). Reporting to the Senior Finance Director, this position would provide leadership and management direction, initially by planning for and executing the implementation of an integrated Radiology hospital financial service across the system. This position would lead/liaise all necessary financial functions to support radiology services across the system while also striving to continuously improve financial performance through improved efficiencies, capital planning, and complex system-wide organizational restructuring, ensuring that the strategic, operational, and financial goals of Enterprise Radiology are met.

Entity Function: The position involves overseeing the financial management of Massachusetts General Hospital’s Radiology Department. The main responsibility is to ensure the financial health and efficiency, including budgeting, financial planning, and monitoring financial performance. The role works closely with the MGH Deputy Chief and plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial success and sustainability of Radiology.

Enterprise Responsibilities:

Radiology Hospital Financial Management – MGB, North Division

  • Financial Analysis and Reporting: This tier is responsible for providing financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting to support decision-making. They monitor and analyze financial performance, identify areas for improvement, and recommend solutions to optimize revenue generation. Hospital/Technical book of business.
  • Financial Operations Management: This tier is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the Radiology department. They oversee the departmental budget, cash flow, and financial systems to ensure accurate financial information, and they identify and manage financial risks and opportunities. Hospital/Technical book of business.
  • Strategic Planning: This tier is responsible for the development and implementation of long-term financial plans, goals, and objectives for the Radiology department. They collaborate with senior management and c-suite executives to ensure that the Radiology financial management aligns with the overall hospital financial strategy.
  • Leadership and Personnel Management: This tier is responsible for managing the Radiology financial team, providing mentorship, training, and support to ensure that the team is highly skilled, motivated, and productive. They ensure that the team is aligned with the Radiology and hospital mission, vision, and values, and they foster a positive and inclusive work environment.

Capital Management – MGB, North Division

  • Manages the asset portfolio of a capital-intensive department. Ensures that the capital investment strategy fulfills the duo missions of maintaining our equipment base and investing in innovative technology.
  • Guides evaluation of the capital equipment relevant to its usability, technological position, and other critical measures relevant to delivering excellent patient care and maintaining our leadership position in the world.
  • Facilitates with department senior administrative, operational and clinical leadership to develop capital investment strategy to meet both short- and long-term needs.
  • Responsible for coordinating and managing special projects, including benchmarking or other strategic analysis and financial modeling.

Entity and Enterprise Coordination

  • Candidate will work with entity financial leaders and in coordination with enterprise radiology finance leader to ensure overall alignment with the vision and strategy of enterprise radiology.

Entity Responsibilities:

Financial Management (MGH)

  • Guides financial management of GH Department of Radiology finance. Monitors performance both at the cost center and department level. Presents fiscal performance and makes recommendations to the Executive Director, Chief of Service and Senior Leadership of the department.
  • Guides and supports Clinical Operational and Clinical Support leadership in managing and developing annual budgets totaling to $1.1B+ in gross patient service revenue and $140 M+ of direct operating expenses.
  • Ensures financial systems and reporting are functional and responsive as MGH strives to stay ahead of technology trends and changes in healthcare.
  • Guides and develops expense management measures that are sustainable.
  • Directs the activities of the GH Finance team. Interviews, hires, and appraises performances and terminates as appropriate.
  • Guides Chiefs of Residents in managing the academic cost center budget.

Leadership (MGH)

  • Designs and implements educational sessions to advance the financial skill set of operational leadership.
  • Leads department-wide strategic initiatives in collaboration with the Executive Director, Chief of Service and Senior Leadership including design, team formation and implementation. Interfaces and collaborates with employees at all levels, including radiologists, clinical operations, and administrative support staff.
  • Leads the GH finance team in leveraging technology to enhance data analysis and management, staying attuned to the changing technology capabilities and align them to the organizational needs. Initiates, develops, and implements financial IT enhancement initiatives.
  • Trains staff and fosters a culture of innovative thinking where employees are encouraged to offer ideas to improve and streamline procedures.
  • Offers opportunities as a teaching hospital to train future business leaders through collaboration with academic institutions and build on the department rich tradition of academic contributions, including notable publications in prestigious journals.
  • Demonstrates good leadership skills in empowering and developing team members.

  • Hires, trains, mentors, and coaches a talented staff and leads team with a focus on exceeding goals.

  • These are reasonably related to the job/position, at similar level and classification of current grading, and are needed as the organizational priorities evolve over time.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of fundamental management skills (finance, operations, data analysis, compliance, change management and value delivery) required to effectively lead programs and strategic initiatives within a complex healthcare system
  • Knowledge of the MGB system and its institutions is preferred
