From our space in the Indiana Memorial Union, hospitality staff serve thousands of guests each year through professional dining and retail operations, catered events, conferences, and celebrations, keeping our spaces clean and functional, our food tasty, and our customers happy.
Through meticulous planning and coordination, constant innovation, and a keen attention to detail, IU Catering staff use fresh, seasonal ingredients to deliver spectacular client-driven culinary experiences, from piping hot coffee and in-house baked pastries for a meeting of 20 to a sumptuous five-course meal and elegant custom cake for a wedding of 200 – on campus and throughout Bloomington.
Job Summary
- Provides high quality guest service.
- Ensures guests have a positive, memorable experience.
- Serves guests during weddings, banquets, served meals.
- Maintains standards ensuring consistent presentation, aesthetics of setting and quality of guest service.
- Assists with catering events.
- Participates in the setup, execution, and clearing of catering events. Sets up meeting rooms, banquet rooms, performance halls, classrooms, outdoor venues, and other facilities.

Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires tasks typically associated with food service work. It involves periods of both sedentary work and times of frequent movement about the workspace. Using commercial kitchen equipment and tools, moving supplies weighing from 20-50 pounds, and effective communication skills are necessary. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. This role also will work indoors around both hot and cold temperatures and loud noises. This role involves handling meat and plant-based food products as well as a variety of ingredients that may include some or all of the top 9 allergens in the preparation of menu items and during the course of cleaning and ware-washing tasks. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$12.25 per hour
Work Hours
Flexible and variable work schedule.
This position often requires employees to work evening, late night, and weekend shifts.
Minimum of 10 hours per week, Monday – Sunday.
Position is capped at 29 hours per week.
