Academic Part-time Position

As a part-time Professor, you will develop and deliver curriculum using various engaging and innovative methods, playing a pivotal role in enhancing academic excellence through sound, teaching practice.

The School of Health & Life Sciences is seeking qualified professionals to teach lab and clinical courses part-time in our Enhanced Practice for Internationally Educated Nurses program for the 2025 Winter and Spring terms. We welcome applications from Registered Nurses who have worked in the Canadian health care system, have expertise in the following subject matter areas, and have experience teaching and/or mentoring students.

  • Professional Nursing Practice
  • Assessment Skills
  • Clinical Care and Simulation
  • Palliative and Community Care
  • Geriatric Care
  • Mental Health and Chronic Illness
  • OSCE and NCLEX Preparation

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. These courses are largely delivered in-person at the Kitchener, Guelph, Brantford and/or Milton campus(es). Conestoga offers classes Monday to Sunday from 7:00 am – 10:00 pm. Part-time Professors typically teach 1-2 courses. Courses are approximately 3-6 hours per week in the classroom for a 14-week term.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure program and course curriculum are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices in the field
  • Design appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement
  • Carry out regularly scheduled instruction according to the format prescribed for the course, including online, classroom, and computer-assisted lab lessons
  • Ensure student awareness of course objectives, instructional approach, and evaluation systems
  • Evaluate student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of student work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required
  • Support students in the use of eConestoga, the learning management system (D2L), as well as maintain course materials within this system
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles
  • Work in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Nursing is preferred
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
  • Minimum of five years of nursing experience is required
  • Previous adult or post-secondary level teaching experience is an asset
  • Experience with curriculum development is an asset
  • Experience with computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g., D2L) is preferred
  • Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels, including international students and students requiring accommodation, is an asset
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence, student success, and ability to support Conestoga’s continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Strong relationships with industry contacts and network connections are considered an asset
