JOB SUMMARY

The IT Security Operations Unit provides the City’s technology security expertise and security operations necessary for ensuring the identification, assessment and mitigation of technological threats, risks and vulnerabilities to the City’s IT infrastructure, assets and electronic information, and overseeing the resolution of any technology security incidents.

You are responsible for planning and managing the day-to-day delivery and operations of technology security programs aligned to corporate security policies and guidelines established through the Chief Information Security Office and/or corporate cyber security governance. 

Programs, services, projects and activities include: 

• Threat and vulnerability management
• Identity and access management
• Data Security
• Security monitoring
• Security Incident Response & Digital Forensics.

 

You are also responsible for managing the unit’s human (including contracted services) and financial resources, and stakeholder and partner relationships.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of a 4 year university degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems security, business administration or other related field.

Minimum of 5 years of related experience in the detection, control, management and mitigation of technology security threats, risks and vulnerabilities, including a minimum of 3 years in the management of human and financial resources.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Related Information/Technology Security certification is desirable (e.g. CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, SABSA, CAP, EC-Council)

KNOWLEDGE

• Information technology security principles, concepts, methodologies, techniques and tools
• The IT environment including infrastructure, architecture, operating systems, software, etc.
• Existing and emerging technology security risks, threats and vulnerabilities, including those that are specific to City programs and services (e.g. public health and its information)
• Industry-specific technology security requirements (e.g. PCI), risks and threats
• Security protocols related to cloud computing
• Project management practices and methodologies
• The City of Ottawa’s organizational, governance and administrative structures
• Legislation, regulations, policies, standards and guidelines relevant to the work
• Industry trends and developments
• Business administration concepts, theories, principles and methodologies
• Corporate policies, guidelines and practices
• The various Collective Agreements in place at the City
• Understanding of the programs/services and operations of other City areas, and the inter-relationships between them and own work area
• MS Office 365
• Must be familiar with applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures
