  • Environmental Health and WASH Research Group under the Health Systems and Population Studies Division has focused on determining and mitigating environmental pollution, evaluating WASH strategies for improved health, and generating evidence to understand the extent of environmental pollution and contamination in low-resource settings.
  • Lead exposure is a significant public health concern responsible for numerous fatal and non-fatal diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and cognitive impairment. This issue is particularly prevalent in Bangladesh. To address this, icddr,b is conducting a crucial research project. The Research Officer will play a pivotal role in this project, focusing on lead exposure through cookware in Bangladesh.

Position Description:

  • The Research Officer will report to the Assistant Scientist and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing research activities to collect data, analyze, write reports and manuscripts, and document within the research protocol guidelines and organizational values and guidelines. She/he will also be involved in –
  • Implement qualitative research to collect and analyze data from stakeholders at various levels, including government and non-government organizations, health facilities, policymakers, and disease domain experts;
  • Conduct literature review, analyze data, and draw scientific inferences;
  • Develop research proposals that include a thorough research design methodology and apply for grant funding opportunities related to heavy metals to the donor;
  • Supervise and guide team members in implementing project/ research activities assigned by the supervisor;
  • Transcription of interviews, analysis, and writing results;
  • Validate documents and reports for data accuracy and adherence to protocol guidelines;
  • Prepare draft report for submission to supervisor; Revise final report based on feedback received from supervisor;
  • Support to the Principal Investigator for developing manuscript/guidelines/SOPs and any other reports relevant to the projects;
  • Liaise with government and non-government stakeholders in implementing project activities and developing collaboration.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Masters in Social science, preferably Anthropology/ Sociology/ Health Economics / other relevant fields; CGPA >3.5 preferred in both honors and master’s.
  • 3 years of working experience in health research; One year of working experience in a relevant field.
