Senior Associate – O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law

Requirements

The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law was established in 2007 through the generous philanthropy of Linda and Timothy O’Neill to respond to the need for innovative solutions to the most pressing global health concerns. In bringing together experts from both the public health and legal fields, the O’Neill Institute reflects the importance of public and private law in health policy analysis. Housed at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., the O’Neill Institute draws upon Georgetown’s considerable intellectual resources, including the School of Nursing and Health Studies, the School of Medicine, the McCourt School of Public Policy, and the Kennedy Institute of Ethics.

The Senior Associate will work on projects and/or academic research projects and explore new policy areas. Work includes preparation of white papers, organization of research colloquia, expert meetings, coordination of interdisciplinary research team, and grant writing. Academic projects involve working closely with faculty to produce scholarly works for publication. In some case, this work will result in joint publication. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

• Work with the Institute’s Director, faculty members, and staff to conduct short-term advanced research projects, including legal and policy research on relevant national and global health law (e.g., public health law, international health regulations, health and human rights, etc.).
• Provide some supervision of Research Assistants (RAs) and student research on relevant topics where projects will involve legal and policy writing and presentations, as well as participation in related conferences and events.
• Oversee, legal and policy writing and research, along with event attendance, fundraising support, and networking.
• Manage academic and institute support and travel when needed.
• Support O’Neill Institute/ Global Health Law LL.M. courses to expand opportunities for experiential learning.
• Cultivate and help manage relationships with external clients to help define and support student papers and evaluate work.
• Manage other work in support of the course development and execution.

Work Interactions

The Senior Associate will report to the Co-Directors, Health Policy and the Law. Externally, they communicate with partners and funders as necessary for assigned projects. Internally, the incumbent communicates with other institutes, clinics and professors as needed to obtain information relevant to research projects.

Requirements and Qualifications

• JD
• Five to seven years of health law and/or health policy experience required, with some supervisory experience
• Familiarity with both domestic and international health law topics
• Academic and working knowledge of research topics related to health law
• Excellent research and legal writing skills
• Ability to operate professionally and maturely in interactions with academic and other stakeholders
• Ability to work well as part of a small team and supervise student work in a professional manner
• Exceptional academic credentials, including publications preferred

Pay Range

The projected hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $66,783.00 – 153,600.00 USD Annually. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.

$66,783.00 – $126,720.23
