Position: Sessional Lecturer

Course Title and Code: CHM247H1S – Introductory Organic Chemistry II

Course Description: This course is recommended for students in the life and health science programs and is a continuation of CHM136H1 (Introductory Organic Chemistry II). The course commences with an outline of structure elucidation techniques in organic chemistry (spectroscopy) and proceeds to discuss the reactivity and properties of important functional groups. Emphasis is placed on synthetic and mechanistic principles that are applied to pharmaceutically and biologically important compounds whenever possible, providing students with a working knowledge of modern organic chemistry.

Estimated TA support: 90 TA hours

Estimated course enrolment: 128 students

In-person class schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (2:00 – 4:30 pm)

Sessional dates of appointment: July 1, 2025, to August 31, 2025 (0.50 FCEs)

$9,457.90 for Sessional Lecturer I 

$9,930.79 for Sessional Lecturer I Long-Term

$10,121.77 for Sessional Lecturer II

$10,326.62 for Sessional Lecturer II Long-Term

$10,362.76 for Sessional Lecturer III

$10,570.02 for Sessional Lecturer III Long-Term

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field is required. Experience in lecturing and/or coordinating laboratories in organic chemistry at the university level will be preferred.

Description of duties: The Department of Chemistry requires a sessional lecturer to deliver the in-person lectures in CHM247H1S (Introductory Organic Chemistry II) during the 2024 Summer session. The successful applicant will be responsible for effectively delivering the course with all attendant organizational issues of lecture preparation and delivery, supervising tutors, setting, supervising and marking exams, calculation and submission of final course marks, course evaluations, holding office hours, and so forth.
