The Critical Studies in Equity and Solidarity Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from May 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025 for the following in-person course:

CSE345H1F: Equity and Activism in Education

CSE345H1 – Examines contemporary issues in education and schooling from a social justice and equity perspective. Engages with a variety of theoretical frameworks including anti-homophobia education, critical pedagogy, critical race theory, decolonizing knowledges, and intersectionality. Includes an overview of educational activist projects.

Class Schedule: Lecture: Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00 – 5:00 PM EST

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90

Sessional Lecturer I (Long-term): $9,930.79

Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77

Sessional Lecturer II (Long-term): $10,326.62

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76

Sessional Lecturer III (Long-term): $10,570.02

Minimum Qualifications

Completed or nearly completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) required. Academic background in social justice education and familiarity with anti-oppressive pedagogies. The candidate should have a research and/or teaching background in or across the following areas of scholarship: critical anti-racist education; decolonial pedagogies; gender in education; anti-homophobia education; critical disability studies in education; pedagogies of solidarity.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience at the university level preferred. Background or experience working with small groups on issues related to social justice education is preferred.

This course is being offered to both CSES students and students currently enrolled in the Transitional Year Programme (TYP). TYP is a full-time, eight-month access-to-University program intended for adults who do not have the formal qualifications for university admission. The program has its roots in the Black community in Toronto, having emerged out of two community summer programs in 1969 and 1970, which prepared a small number of students for entry into York University. TYP is meant for those who were unable to acquire the opportunity to finish high school and or gain the necessary qualifications to enter university due to financial problems, family difficulties or other circumstances resulting from systemic inequity. The Program actively encourages applications from members of the Indigenous, Black and LGBTQ communities, sole-support parents, persons with disabilities, neurodiversity, and individuals from working-class and under-class backgrounds of all ethnicities.

Responsibilities

Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; and holding regular office hours.
