The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of stationary industrial grain handling and cleaning machinery. Mechanical equipment includes material handling equipment, dust control equipment and components, dust ducts, grain spouting and liner systems.What you will do:
- Interpretation of Technical Drawings: Read and interpret equipment diagrams, schematics, and blueprints to determine precise work requirements.
- Field Measurements & Layout: Conduct accurate field measurements to perform layout, fabrication, and installation of replacement components in accordance with design specifications.
- Material Fabrication: Utilize advanced fabrication techniques to work with thicker materials and metals, including but not limited to plate steel and sheet metal. Experience with heavy-duty materials is a strong asset.
- Metalworking & Cutting: Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on sheet metal and plate steel based on technical drawings or templates. Employ cutting, drilling, punching, bending, and shaping processes using various tools such as:
- Plasma cutters
- Wire and stick feed welding equipment
- Hand and power shears
- Rolling and power brake machinery
- Snips and other metalworking tools
- Air Equipment & Systems: Fabricate, install, and repair air-slide systems, grain spouting, material blowing systems, and other air-handling equipment. Ensure optimal performance and reliability of these systems.
- Lining Installation: Install durable liners for grain handling spouting, conveyor chutes, screw casings, and machinery.
- Non-Metallic Materials Expertise: Work with non-metallic materials used in lining applications, including ceramics, Tivar, urethane, and UHMW plastics.
- Adhesive & Fastening Techniques: Use adhesives (e.g., epoxies, urethanes, contact cements) to fasten components. Soldering and welding may also be required for certain applications.
- Electrical Hardware Support: Fabricate and install mounting hardware for electrical components, such as limit switches, sensors, and other electrical systems, in coordination with the Electrical Department.
- Rigging & Equipment Handling: Safely operate rigging equipment, dollies, and other tools to move or position heavy machinery and parts as needed.
- Mobile Equipment Operation: Operate mobile equipment, including forklifts, manlifts, scissor lifts, and telehandlers to assist with equipment handling and installations.
- Maintenance of Dust Systems: Maintain and troubleshoot pollution control systems, including dust collection, vacuum systems, and other material control systems to ensure efficient operation and regulatory compliance.
- Lubrication & Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine equipment lubrication and other preventative maintenance as required to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operation of mechanical systems.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other trades (mechanical, electrical, etc.) and assist as needed to ensure seamless project execution and efficient team performance.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department.
What you bring to the team:
- Must be a certified Sheet Metal Journeyperson
- A minimum of 3 years experience in an industrial setting or comparable service work in the industry.
- Knowledge of industrial machinery and fabrication including grain handling and cleaning equipment would be an asset
- A solid safety record and good knowledge of health and safety policies and practices.
- Ability to work in a team environment and able to work on small projects with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
