- Leading a team of remediation, restoration, and project coordinators to facilitate a successful project outcome While motivating staff to deliver quality results on time and within budget, including mentoring and coaching for success.
- Using extensive knowledge of remedial design and construction to build relationships and collaborate with project contractors by understanding their needs and challenges through early engagement in planning and implementation processes that support the projects’ success while addressing and resolving issues.
- Participating in developing the execution scope of work, workforce planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risks of assigned projects to ensure the project plan can be successfully transitioned to execution.
- Reporting the project status to partners and management, proactively raising issues as needed.
- Supporting the interface between engineering and remediation. Communicating all key issues to Project Management.
- Filling in as required as the Acting Manager for Remediation Project Teams.
- Conducting audit reviews, constructability sessions, Integrated Work Packages (IWPs) framework, designing documents, and addressing remediation issues.
- Assisting in the tender process for the work area packages, leading site walks, and area questions, and participating in the proposal evaluation.
- Attending internal and contractor construction meetings and actively participating as part of the CNL Remediation team.
- Coordinating the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) development and contractors’ quality plan, tracking all lessons learned from field remediation.
- Monitoring technical progress on engineering and design work activities, studies, and contracts, against standards, objectives, and specifications.
- Assisting with training and mentoring of construction Project Coordinators. Be a safety example and champion for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL).
- Assisting in establishing controls for the project scope and managing the risks.
- Reporting on project performance to senior management and other stakeholders, as required.
- Participating in Management Team meetings related to project performance, priorities, and staffing.
- Assisting with defining roles & responsibilities and managing performance by setting objectives, formally evaluating staff performance, advancing promotions, taking disciplinary action, and managing leave.
- Supporting the delivery of projects of critical significance to the ongoing success of the PHAI.
- Evaluating project team members’ use of applicable safety equipment and adherence to safe work policies/practices, radiation protection policies/practices, and any other CNL safety requirements as mandated by the organization during site visits.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Diploma from an accredited college in a discipline relevant to construction project management, engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience
- Track record for leading large projects from the definition, investigation, design, and budgeting through to construction and closeout.
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible project experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in a senior or project lead capacity on Construction and Remediation projects.
- Has extensive experience in managing teams and budgets through complex multi-stakeholder environments.
- Demonstrated experience in applying all of the project management knowledge areas (Scope, Cost, Time, QA-TIPS, Communications, Human Resources, Risk, Procurement, and Integration
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong general management skills, including planning, budgeting, resourcing, time management, negotiation skills, contract management, administration, and progress reporting for an executive audience.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Willingness to be on-call and work overtime, as required. Shall be designated as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) and willing to take all required training to be successful in this position.
