As a recognition of our commitment to quality and patient safety, we have received the highest distinction of Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada.Job SummaryThe Telecommunications Specialist is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of all telecommunication services of the Hospital. The Telecommunications Applications / Technical Resource will be responsible for liaising and meeting with external telecommunications vendors to ensure that the telecommunication needs of the organization are met for patients, staff, physicians and the public.He/she is required to have technical and computer knowledge in order to maintain/support all telecommunications systems for upgrades and/or maintenance.Primary ResponsibilitiesGeneric

  • Facilitates the implementation of Telecommunication Services to accomplish annual goals and objectives consistent with the vision of the organization.
  • Establishment and modification of policy and procedures, manual updates, support documentation and the Southlake Regional Health Centre telephone directory for immediate reference.
  • Facilitates continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support Telecommunication requirements for all hospital staff and/ or departments, i.e. application recommendations and implementation and provide training. (e.g. C6, Blackberry, Connexall and PBX)
  • Inventory control of all telecommunications equipment, i.e. telephone sets, pagers and cellular telephones etc.
  • Maintains security levels and access for all telecommunication systems.
  • Establishing a standard for maintenance and operation of equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of programming for all telecommunication equipment.
  • Maintains sound relationships with contacts at supply companies for repairs and installations.

Technical Support

  • To assist in the installation of all telecommunication systems.
  • Have complete understanding of all software and programming functions and the ability to program those functions related to all Telecommunication systems.
  • To ensure optimum functionality of all telecommunications systems including;
  • Voicemail boxes and menu set up
  • Voice mail password lock ups
  • Voice Recognition set up
  • To analyze traffic studies on the telephone and voice mail system.
  • Provide training and technical support to all hospital staff on all telecommunication systems.
  • To provide immediate maintenance for all telecommunication devices.

Other

  • Support implementation or replacement telephony platform (currently completing RFP process) and associated technologies.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with voice applications/PBX (prefer Avaya CS1000E experience) in a 24/7 critical infrastructure system environment requiring 99.99% or higher availability with multiple sites.
  • Working knowledge of VoIP, DSL, T1, 801.11x and Fiber Optics.
  • Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment; flexibility to work extended hours and weekends if needed.
  • Possess knowledge of telecommunication verbiage, CCS, CLLI Code, E-911, CALEA, NPA/NXX, LERG, LEC tariffs, entrance facility, LCR, SIP, long distance principles and Internet Technology.
  • Familiarity with privacy and security standards.
  • Adequate project management skills and ability to manage time and complex tasks.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and able to communicate both verbally and in writing in professional manner.
  • Ability to create and maintain positive and professional business relationships with both internal associates and external customers.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to learn and master new technology quickly and improve personal performance through continual self-study.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or college diploma in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3-5 years experience in Telecommunications preferred
