The Department of English and Film Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications for a Tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Shakespeare Studies beginning July 1, 2025, subject to budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will have expertise in the primary field of Shakespeare Studies, with preferred specialization in the following secondary fields: Early Modern Literature and Drama. Of particular interest to our department is a scholar who brings Shakespeare—his works, his culture, his influence—squarely into the twenty-first century and reckons with “Global Shakespeare,” a writer who serves as a gateway to the humanities, allowing readers and audiences to confront contemporary crises and reconsider relations among nature, art, gender, and technology.

We are seeking an active scholar with a strong record of publications and teaching experience. The successful candidate will be expected to teach four one-term courses per year, to maintain a robust research agenda, and to engage in academic service. The candidate should be prepared to teach all of our current undergraduate Shakespeare courses (EN233 and EN234), as well as courses in Drama and Early Modern literature, such as EN322, EN393, EN394 and EN395. We would also encourage the candidate to develop other courses that complement departmental strengths. Moreover, the Department’s MA and PhD programs will give the candidate opportunities for graduate teaching and supervision.

Aligned with Laurier’s Action Plan for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and Indigeneity (https://www.wlu.ca/about/discover-laurier/equity-diversity-and-inclusion/index.html), the Department of English and Film Studies is strongly committed to the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in our hiring process and consideration of candidates with lived experience. We strongly encourage applications from candidates from diverse and equity-deserving groups to apply.
