Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a studio-based artist living and working in North West England to spend three months at the British School at Rome (early January to late March 2026).

Job Description

The residency allows artists to focus on their practice, free from everyday pressures and distractions, with accommodation, meals and the support of BSR staff all provided. Artists live and work within the BSR’s vibrant international research community, against the backdrop of the splendid, eternally fascinating capital city of Rome.

The residency offers:

  • a stipend of £1,500 per month
  • a travel grant of £500
  • board and accommodation in a purpose-designed residential studio
  • full staff support, including help with access to sites, collections and resources in Rome and Italy from our Research Support Officer, and support with studio visits, site visits, exhibitions and networking from our Fine Arts Programme Curator
  • Weekly Italian language lessons on site
  • 24/7 access to the BSR Library
  • opportunities to participate in open studios and to collaborate with local artists and groups

Job Requirements

Applicants must be:

  • studio-based artists
  • resident in North West England (Cumbria, Cheshire, Liverpool City Region, Greater Manchester, or Lancashire)
  • at least two years out of art school/university education (whether BA, MA/MFA, or PhD) or equivalent.
