Location: Toronto, ON – Don Mills (onsite)About the Role:
Global Toronto has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Video Journalist on the National Online Video team. Reporting to the National Managing Editor of Online Video, the successful candidate would be responsible for the production of daily news content, live events, and breaking news coverage across multiple digital platforms. This position requires working a variety of shifts on a rotational basis, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.This is a Group 3 position under the current collective agreement.You will contribute by:
- Producing daily news content, live events, and breaking news coverage across multiple digital platforms (online, YouTube, Global’s 24/7 OTT streaming service, and broadcast).
- Producing live event coverage including graphic and control room production via VMIX.
- Creating compelling video to support breaking news coverage of major international, national, and local stories.
- Working with Global News Resources desk to coordinate live coverage and content delivery for Global News broadcast and digital properties according to strict delivery deadlines.
- Working directly with members of the National News Desk (NND) and National Online Team to coordinate coverage in breaking news situations and ensure smooth delivery of video content for all Global News digital platforms.
- Managing daily maintenance and overseeing curation of video content on Globalnews.ca and the Global TV app.
- Providing editorial oversight for digital video coverage when needed on issues such as graphic content, language and style, Fair Dealing, and fact-checking.
- Writing scripts, cutting video clips, and producing content for Global News broadcast properties as well as our 24/7 OTT news channel.
- Performing other duties as required.
Skills and experience you will bring:
- Post-secondary education in a broadcast related field; journalism degree is an asset.
- News writing or production experience is required.
- 2-4 years of experience with non-linear editing tools: Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, Sony Vegas, Grass Valley, etc.
- Experience live streaming on a variety of digital platforms: Facebook, YouTube, Periscope etc.
- The ability to create and oversee production of a wide range of news content for a multi-faceted news operation.
- Ability to write in a breaking news style for multiple platforms in a clear and concise manner.
- A passion for breaking news and broad knowledge of current events at a national and international level.
- Must be able to adapt in a breaking news situation; focus on prioritization of content delivery in a time-sensitive environment.
- Working knowledge of how major news organizations are employing a wide range of digital platforms and formats.
- Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices an asset.
- Experience writing for TV an asset.
- Previous experience with online Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress an asset.
- A team player that can work both independently and within a collaborative environment.
- Knowledge of Global News broadcast, online, or YouTube properties an asset.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills a must.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced breaking news environment.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends on a consistent basis is a must.
- Creative mind with the ability to think outside the box and problem solve.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a high-pressure situation.
- Self-motivated individual that can be counted on to make decisions.
